The use of rhetoric in writing is crucial because it s what makes the source effective or ineffective, so that you are able to persuade the audience. Rhetoric is defined as, â€Å"the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing.† In order for the speaker to persuade the audience is using figurative language and the rhetoric appeals. Some appeals which consist of ethos, pathos, and logos. Each of these which is important in order to catch the audience attention. Safire expressed pathos through the quote where he talked about how they will be remembered for their courage to accomplish this mission. An example would be, â€Å"They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.† In this quote Safire let his audience know that although two men lost their lives in the launch they will always be remembered. Safire also says, â€Å" In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man.† From this we can infer that these men sacrificed their lives to try to accomplish a mission that was almost impossible at the time due to lack of technology. With this being said, the audience was most likely to react in such a way that might have left them without a word because of the strong pathos and them being able to understand this event with some empathy.

After some time at that position, she worked her way up to become the Lead Benefits handler forthe whole west coast division for the RiteAid Corporation. When Miss Youn g got to YorkCollege, there were a lot of different problems that she had to deal with but one of the biggestwas the problem with the benefits package that they gave employees. York College has a middleman that they pay to take care of the benefits for the teachers. The problem with this is that ifthere are any changes made in the benefits at York College, it does not get changed around in thecomputer system for about five months. For those five months, the employee still expects to getbenefits so it has to come out of York College’s pocket. The insurance that the college hascovers only about two to three months of that period, so Miss Young has to find a way to fix thisproblem. Many of the professors at York College havebeen around for over ten years and they are getting up to the age where they are looking to retire. If a professor retires, the college has to go out and find a new person to take over that position. As with any other job when you bring in a new person, you lose a lot of the knowledge andexperience of the person that came before them. Miss Young has to deal with this problem, andhow she can make it the easiest on the staff and the customers, the students. Miss Young’s jobhas a lot of interaction with people so she will have to build all new relationships with the newemployees that come to the college. Along with the teachers, Miss Young believes that there willalso be a high turnover in the administration. The administration are the people that Miss Youngmust work with and the people that affect her job. If a new dean or president were to come in,they may have a whole different view of what part Miss Young would play in the future of YorkOne of the big problems facing Miss Young now and into the future will be the benefitpackages of the teachers at York College. The teachers are talking about a new deal where theywill still get benefits when they retire and not have to pay for it. Miss Young has to find a way tomake the teachers happy, while at the same time not just give away the college’s money. A lot ofthe time Miss Young has to almost be a middle man between the college and the teacher so shehas to do what she thinks is best for both parties and what will keep them happy. Miss Young’s days are no t always full of such immense problems. Her job changes fromday to day and that is what she loves about it. Although it is hard for her to categorize what a typical day’s tasks would be, shenarrowed it down to the few tasks that she usually has to do. Miss Young is responsible for thepayroll of the whole campus. This is a big job if you think about how fickle people can be overtheir pay. If you got your pay stub and realized there was some money missing, I am sure thatyou would be in Miss Young’s office very soon. She has to make sure that everyone is gettingwhat they are suppose to and there are no problems. She must also audit all of the benefitbillings. She must make sure that all of the payments are received from the employees and thatshe makes the correct payments to the company that covers the benefit package of the co llege. Miss Young must also write internal policies affecting the college and the employees. Through allof these tasks she must also answer the phone. You may not think of that as a very hard task, butwhile I was there she had three people call her. If you were in the middle of trying to getsomething important done and people kept calling you, you would quickly learn how distractingthat could be. Some of the phone calls Miss Young gets she does not know how to answer so shehas to then go and research the answer for the person. Although Miss Young does all of thesetasks in a typical day, the majority of her time is spent auditing and on the phone. Every corner you turn there is a fast food restaurant. Fast food is so convenient and so much more cheaper than healthy food and the low prices for a burger distract us from eating healthy. And for those in a rush it is perfect for them to drive through the drive through and grab a burger and go to work. Stress is also a huge factor in Americas increase in obesity, also technology makes everything so much easier for us and makes us lazy which causes lack of exercise. Thirty four percent of American adults are obese, and the percentage of obese children is seventeen percent. Something needs to be done about this and the government seems to be doing nothing about it. What I think we should do? Smaller portion sizes. Ban large fries, large sodas and a double-double burger. Make serving pre-cooked, frozen foods, usually thawed out by boiling in hot oil banned as well. Fast food chains should only be allowed to serve fresh foods, yeah it will be more costly but they're to blame for Americas obesity and something needs to be done about it. And once the food are more healthy even more people will eat out at fast food restaurants and they will make a profit on their food. We should also limit the number of restaurants a fast food chain can have in a city or state. From my house there is 3 McDonalds within a 10 minute drive, I think its absurd. The government should also invest in a fast food restaurant chain but that serves healthy food or at least food that is made well and fresh. Fast food companies play a large role in the rapid growth of obesity because they spend millions of dollars in advertisements that make fast food appealing to the human eye. They make everything look so appetizing yet don’t give you nutritional information. Physical violence has always been the direct means to solving most of these conflicts but with a cost. Both side usually lost hundreds and sometimes thousands of lives and in the end there was never a plan in place to ensure these problems never occurred again. Following the completion of the Cold War sanctions have been reestablished to ensure a government or country can be held accountable without having to use lethal measures. If there was a way to cut off import and exporting of resources to the corrupt government it would force them to comply with international laws without having to use military actions. In the past sanctions have been placed on count ries that have defied basic human needs, committed atrocious crimes against neighboring countries, or posed a threat so great to others (use of weapons of mass destruction) that the United Nations stepped in to protect those who could not protect themselves. Sanctions are put into place in the hopes of causing hardship for any country’s government and to ensure complete compliance has been established before these sanctions are lifted. Deforestation doesn’t just threaten our climate, it threatens the livelihoods of 1. 6 Billion people that rely on forests for food and economic activity.Forests also serve as habitats to rare and undiscovered animal and plant species and play a key role in providing water and preventing flooding and erosion. Ending deforestation and protecting forests will not only preserve biodiversity and defend the rights of forest communities, it is also one of the quickest and cost effective ways of curbing global warming. Greenpeace is campaigning for zero deforestation, globally, by 2020. Deforestati on,  clearance  or  clearing  is the removal of a forest or stand of trees where the land is thereafter converted to a non-forest use. 1]  Examples of deforestation include conversion of forestland to farms, ranches, or urban use. [23]  From the perspective of the developing world, the benefits of forest as carbon sinks or biodiversity reserves go primarily to richer developed nations and there is insufficient compensation for these services.Developing countries feel that some countries in the developed world, such as the United States of America, cut down their forests centuries ago and benefited greatly from this deforestation, and that it is hypocritical to deny developing countries the same opportunities: that the poor shouldn't have to bear the cost of preservation when the rich created the problem.
